Population — The Future

Throughout the world the rate of births is less,
It’s well below the level of replacement,
Except it’s high in Africa — East and West.
World population grows at one percent.

However, richer peoples eat  more meat,
To feed a bovine, land is eight times more,
Than what is used for human grain to eat.
Food’s going to be expensive for the poor.

Corn, wheat, and rice yields now are stalling.
Irrigation from snow melt may  be decreasing.
The water table everywhere is falling,
While Himalayan glaziers are retreating.

Intensive farms has made the soil deplete;
Eco farms have costly, smaller yields.
Resistant weeds continually increase,
Less un-farmed  land is suitable for fields.

As richer folks worldwide more meat consume,
Bread, meat and dairy price climbs will resume.
